Organize Your China Driving-Permit Appointment Folder

Build the folder from the office's instructions

A well-organized folder will not make an ineligible application eligible, but it can help you present the correct documents without searching through old files at the counter. Start with the current checklist for your intended office and application route. Use this article as an organizing method, not as a replacement list of legally required materials.

Beijing's official driving guide distinguishes the identity-document arrangements for general driving-related services from those for a temporary permit. That is a reason to identify your route carefully. Do not add requirements from a different service simply because both pages discuss foreign drivers. Ask the receiving office about uncertain items.

Use an index that mirrors the requested package

Create a short private index with one line per requested item. Record whether you have the original, whether a copy was requested, where the item is stored and whether anything remains unresolved. If a document has several relevant pages, list them together so that a reverse side or attachment is not overlooked.

Do not fill the index with unnecessary identification numbers. Its purpose is navigation, not the creation of another sensitive database. Keep source documents in protective sleeves if helpful, but avoid permanently binding or altering documents unless the receiving office specifically instructs you to do so.

Separate originals from working copies

Use clearly labeled sections for originals, requested copies and personal working notes. A printout used during preparation should not accidentally be presented as an original. Likewise, an old translation retained for reference should not sit at the front of the final submission package where it could be mistaken for the current version.

Check the final translation against the source document and the agreed provider version. If pages arrived separately, confirm that the set is complete. Do not add a seal, signature or handwritten correction yourself to make a package look finished. Ask the issuing or translating party to handle any required correction.

Keep a questions sheet outside the submission stack

Write unresolved questions in plain language on a separate sheet. Name the relevant field or document and explain what needs clarification. For example, a question about an old surname is easier to discuss when you can point to the specific documents than when it is buried in a general request for help.

Bring the relevant official guidance or earlier office reply as a reference, with its date and source recorded. A screenshot of advice is not itself approval, and an earlier answer may need to be revisited if your circumstances changed. Use it to make the conversation more precise, not to claim that the counter must accept your interpretation.

  • Item: the document or field being discussed.
  • Question: the uncertainty stated in one sentence.
  • Previous guidance: who answered and when, if applicable.
  • Next action: leave blank until the responsible party clarifies it.

Prepare a private digital backup for reference

Keep readable copies in a private location you can access if you need to check a detail. Label current files clearly and avoid spreading them across public links or group chats. A digital backup can help you identify what was prepared; it should not be assumed to substitute for an original or an accepted submission format.

If you expect to have limited connectivity, decide how you will access essential reference information without exposing sensitive files. Do not use another person's public device for document storage. Share only the specific material requested through a verified channel, and remove temporary sharing access when it is no longer needed.

Run a final check before leaving

Confirm the office, appointment details if applicable, travel route and current opening arrangements. Compare the folder with the office's checklist one final time. Check that you have not left an original in a scanner or packed it somewhere inaccessible. Keep contact details for the translator separately in case a document question requires clarification.

Leave room for a request you cannot resolve immediately. Avoid scheduling a tightly timed vehicle collection that depends on an unconfirmed application outcome. This is practical travel planning, not a prediction about how long an office will take to handle your case.

Record the outcome without exposing personal data

After the visit, note which step was completed and any remaining action. If further material is requested, record the exact item and the office's instruction. Keep receipts and documents privately. Do not post an unredacted permit, passport or application form online to ask strangers what it means.

Tell RIDE CN which application route and city your folder is for, and describe the unresolved document question. Confirm the actual service scope before sending personal files; acceptance and issuance remain matters for the competent authority.

Sources and verification

Requirements may differ by city and individual circumstances. Confirm the current requirements with the authority handling your application before you travel or pay for a service.
